Production of electricity
The company is a Spanish firm engaged in the development, construction, operation and ownership of renewable energy projects. It was incorporated in December 2002 and has its registered office in Egues, Spain. It also has other offices located in Sarriguren (Navarra). The company operates its business in three divisions: Electric Power, which covers the largest part of the company's activities and is focused on anything to do with the generation of electric power from renewable sources; Industrial, which specializes in the design and manufacture of wind turbines using in-house technology, as well as the installation of photovoltaic and thermal solar energy systems; and Biofuels, which is focused on the production of biodiesel from first-use vegetable oils and bioethanol from wine-surplus alcohols. The company is the largest developer and constructor of windparks in the world. The manufacture of wind turbines (designed in-house) and the production and marketing of biofuels are carried out by the subsidiary Acciona Biofuels. Its cogeneration plants in Spain have a 115.30 MW capacity. In the field of wind energy, the company has installed 4,122 MW and has approximately 650 MW under construction (in September 2006). It has built 153 windparks for itself, and owns other companies with more than 4,000 turbines. These 153 windparks are also located in France, Germany, the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, Greece and Morocco. The company further owns 19 small hydro power plants (59 MW) and three biomass plants. One of the three biomass plants is a 25 MW straw-fired plant (33 MW in total) and is the largest photovoltaic solar facility in Spain in terms of capacity (1.2 MW). The company's subsidiary Acciona Solar has put into service approximately 35 percent of the grid-connected photovoltaic capacity in Spain. Through the subsidiary Acciona Green Energy Developments, the company manages the sale in deregulated power markets of electricity. The power produced by the company's facilities and the power produced by other producers in the Special Regime that benefit from the technical capability and experience of the company, adapted to customers' needs.
